“POTI” is an unique project which is intending to make plastic ban successful in Goa by providing alternative, cloth bags.

Along with, protecting the environment, the project will provide employment to 25 victims of sexual violence and create awareness about child sexual abuse and sex trafficking with the local population.

POTI is a low cost and high benefit project.

Under this project, ARZ distributes free cloth bags stitched by the victims of sexual violence at the WISH livelihood unit.

In Goa, many women from economically disadvant- aged backgrounds migrate to the Middle East in search of employment but often face labour exploitation and sexual abuse. To address this issue, NGO Arz launched the ‘Safe Pravas’ project on International Day for the elimination of violence against women, aiming to prevent trafficking.

WISH (Women’s Initiative For Self Help) is a collective of survivors, managing various business units such as laundry, paper bags, tissue papers, fabric, printing, and providing employment to 60 women.

WISH members have instituted “WISH Bravery Award”.  The award consists of Stole, Memento and Cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-.

“Wish Bravery Award” 2024 is awarded to Ms. Basamma Harijan. She was trafficked to Muscat, but she managed to protect herself and return safely.  Post her return, she with the help of Arz lodged a complaint and managed to get the traffickers arrested.

Dr. Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar, Chairperson, National Commission For Women, felicitated Ms. Bassama Harijan in the presence of Ms. Ranjita Pai, Chairperson, GSCW; Director, DWCD Mr. Manuel Barreto; and NGOs from Goa during a function on the 29th of November at Margao, Goa.

The Chairperson of NCW, while felicitating Ms. Basamma, that she has done a job of bravery and NCW will make effort to bring back the other women’s caged in Muscat.

“Nanhe Panne” is a biannual magazine featuring contributions from children living in the slums of Mormugao Taluka, Goa. Published by Arz, a non-governmental organization.

The magazine aims to give these children a platform to express their views on various aspects of their lives, including safety, security, infrastructure, education, and health.

The young contributors use diverse mediums such as prose, poetry, drawings, and photography to share their perspectives. Additionally, the magazine highlights interventions conducted by Arz to support these children.

“Nanhe Panne” is distributed to key stakeholders, including:

– Police officials

– Chief officers

– Panchayat members

– Municipal councillors

– Department of Women and Child Development

– Regional Transport Office (RTO)

– District Collector

– Teachers

– Parents

– Religious leaders

– Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs)

This wide distribution helps raise awareness about the children’s situations and expects the authorities to design appropriate interventions and policies.
